Lime Wall Paint coupled with the natural earthen mineral pigments refracts light in a unique way. The mineral surface breaks up incoming light and refracts it in every direction. This luminescence across the mineral surface adds character and a glowing effect to every wall. Lime Wall Paint is specifically formulated to allow the lime to gently “bloom" creating soft tonal variations which add depth, texture, and a velvety suede-like effect, and is perfect for concealing minor imperfections. This calming radiance cannot be duplicated by any acrylic or latex paint. Perfect for hallways, living rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms. If using over drywall or previously painted surfaces, make sure to prime first with our JH Mineral Prime.

As screen colours may appear different, viewing paint chips in-store is recommended.

All paint is final sale.

Where to Use

Interior masonry, brick, drywall and plaster. Previously painted surfaces require JH Mineral Prime. Use also on unpainted exterior stucco, brick, masonry, stone, concrete and plaster. If surfaces are previously painted Mineral Prime is required. If you choose to use in high traffic areas such as kitchens or bathrooms it may be best to finish with the Matte Sealer.

This is a natural mineral based material and slight variations will occur from batch to batch. It is advised to order at least 15-20% more paint than needed to ensure there is enough left over for future touchups. Be sure to box the paint together making a single batch before application.

Surface Preparation

Surfaces must be sound, dry, absorbent, clean and free from dust and grease. Loose paint, dirt, oily substances, mold and mildew must be completely removed.

New Surfaces: Bare drywall should be primed with Mineral Prime. New plaster or masonry should be fully cured.

Unsealed newly installed drywall that has been coated with joint compound needs to be completely dry and even in porosity before priming. Mineral Prime can be applied directly over new drywall, however this is not a blocking primer. Telegraphing of joint tape and seams can occur. This is a mineral based primer that creates a microporous surface for optimal results and proper adhesion with lime paint. If the surface porosity is in question, first seal with a traditional high-quality blocking primer designed for drywall followed by one coat of Mineral Prime.

Previously Painted Surfaces: Loose, peeling or flaking paint should be removed and areas lightly sanded, then dust removed. Fill nail holes and cracks with spackle, sand and dust off.

Prime entire surface with one coat of Mineral Prime and allow to dry 4 hours or overnight.

NOTE: Walls with variable porosity will result in uneven appearance and should be primed with Mineral Prime.

Mixing

Stir Lime Wall Paint before use to ensure a creamy mixture. It may be thinned with water to produce thinner washes of color, and should be thoroughly mixed after each addition of water to ensure homogenous color. The first coat of Lime Wall Paint is best applied as a thicker base coat with no or little water added (up to 25% water). The second coat can be mixed with as much as1 part paint with 1 part water.

Interior Application

You may apply the first coat of Lime Wall Paint using a roller for large volumes of space. You can cross hatch the roller in random sections and for added effect roll over that in a vertical direction. For added dimension and for light neutrals we recommend rolling and back brushing the first coat for large volumes. If you are doing one room or a few rooms we recommend brushing on both coats for the most mottling and dimension. For the second coat it is best to use a cross hatch or random brushing technique. The more random the better and strokes should be both upward toward the ceiling and down toward the floor. For the cross hatch technique you make an X pattern for each stroke. If the wall is textured, use the brush to work the paint into the texture. It is important to maintain a wet edge. Do not stop in the middle of a wall, only at corners or edges as dry edges will be visible. Lapping wet into dry will be distinct.

Finish dries to touch in 2-3 hours but is best to wait 6-8 hours to recoat. ** If you are doing a tone on tone application with two colors it is best to apply the first coat and wait overnight to apply the second coat.

You may also use a 1/2" to 3/8” nap synthetic roller cover on masonry or stone surfaces or on smooth surfaces.

To enhance the radiant luminescent mottled effect, you can apply a thinned down additional coat in the same technique.

Final Step – Moisture cure. It is important after the second coat of Lime Wall Paint for interior and exterior surfaces to water cure it so the lime will cure harder and with moisture. This simply means to mist the walls a few times with water after the final coat. Mist it, let it dry, repeat. Only mist the walls, do not wet them so that there are water streaks, a light mist setting is required.

NOTE: Natural Lime Wash color is darkest when wet and dries to a lighter shade.

When applying the paint pour out the amount needed to use and seal the container of unused portion to keep from drying out. If it happens to dry out, strain the paint using a mesh paint strainer into a clean bucket.

Exterior Application

Apply first coat of Lime Wall Paint by brush, roller or airless spray to achieve a solid color effect using standard good painting practices. Cut-in edges in the same manner as above.

Coverage

Approximately 350 square feet per gallon on smooth drywall and 175 square feet on porous surfaces such as plaster or masonry. Coverage is impacted by surface texture and porosity, application methods and waste. Maintaining a wet edge is essential as dry edges will be visible on smooth surfaces. This is less apparent on textured surfaces such as brick or stone or in lighter colours. Finish dries to touch in 2—4 hours under normal drying conditions. Cool or damp weather may slow down drying. It can be recoated once completely dry.

Clean Up

Clean spills, spatters, hands and tools immediately after use with soap and warm water.

Packaging/Storage

1 gallon and 3.5 gallons in recyclable plastic containers

Safety

Lime Wall Paint is alkaline. Cover all areas which are not to be coated, especially glass, ceramics and natural stone. Any splashes on surrounding surfaces or traffic areas must be rinsed off immediately with plenty of water. Protect eyes and skin from splashes. Do not swallow.

Keep out of reach of children.
