Cleaning with our Marvellous Marseille Soap

Cleaning with our Marvellous Marseille Soap

After weeks of searching for the best possible soap, we're pleased to announce that we may have finally found it! With so many products on the market, it was an eye-opening (and sometimes arduous) process. Having said that, it may surprise you to know we opted for a soap that has been around since the 14th century.

Like all good things, this soap has staying power - not only because of its completely natural composition - but also for its incredible versatility. Hand-crafted in France according to the original recipe, you can wash your dishes, clean your laundry, wash your floors and your face with a single cube.

100% vegan, natural, and eco-friendly, a 600g cube can last 6 months or longer, making it not only versatile and lovely to look at, but surprisingly economical, too. We were so impressed with this humble soap that we just had to share some of its many uses with you!

Dish Washing: you can make a dish-washing liquid by grating some of the soap and mixing the shavings with hot water. You can also rub a wet dish/pan brush directly onto the soap bar and then onto your dishes/pots and pans. If you use the solid cube, be sure to leave it out on a soap dish to dry between uses to make it last even longer. We provide all 3 in our kitchen kit.

Clean Floors/Surfaces: You can use Marseille soap to clean all types of surfaces. Make up your own eco-friendly cleaning solution by mixing soap shavings with hot water and apply it to surfaces. Or simply rub a wet cloth onto the soap and then onto the surface or floor you’re cleaning. Rinse with fresh water. *Note: when trying any new product, always test on a small area first.

For something a little more astringent, use:
1 tablespoon of Marseille soap shavings
1 tablespoon of white vinegar
lemon juice (optional)
3 litres of hot water

Fill a bucket with hot water. Add vinegar and lemon, then add Marseilles soap flakes and mix. Clean with mop as usual. Your floors and surfaces will be shiny and bright with a natural, fresh fragrance!

Laundry: You can also use Marseille soap to create your own laundry detergent. To make this liquid, you'll need:
60g (one cup) grated Marseille Soap for Laundry
2L water
1/4 cup baking soda (as water softener)*
1/4 cup white wine vinegar (as fabric softener)*
*optional

Melt Marseille soap shavings in boiling water. Once melted, allow to cool before adding baking soda and vinegar. Use as you would a normal laundry detergent.

There are just so many recipes available out there to choose from we couldn't possibly choose them all, but we encourage you to look for ones that suit your purposes. You're sure to find a few you'll love! Enjoy, and happy spring cleaning!
